What is involved in a physical therapy visit?

Your first scheduled appointment will include an evaluation by the physical therapist. Thoroughly analyzing the body’s entire kinetic chain, your physical therapist will locate the source of dysfunction and begin to create a treatment plan based on your functional movement goals. Combining specific exercises and manual therapy techniques, your therapist will guide you back toward meeting your moving goals and living your life, your way.

Who will be treating me?

You will be treated by a licensed physical therapist (PT) or physical therapy assistant (PTA) at each of your visits. Your therapist at Valley Rehabilitation of Sun City West has completed a specialized education program at an accredited university and passed a rigorous state board exam in order to evaluate and treat patients.

Will it hurt?

Your therapist will listen to your concerns regarding pain and make every attempt to keep discomfort to a minimum. However, you may experience some soreness caused by new exercises, or discomfort associated with certain hands-on techniques performed by your therapist. Please let the therapist know of any increase or decrease in pain and your therapy will be adjusted as necessary. Every treatment and what to expect will be explained in detail and you will always be involved in your treatment plan. It is important to not cancel your appointments because you are in pain. It will only set you back further and will hinder the healing process.

What do I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement, and properly fitted gym shoes.

How far in advance should I schedule?

Since our therapists’ schedules fill quickly, it is wise to make your appointments as soon as you know when you will be available.
